my dear brothers and sisters, for a long time i believed that God is Truth. but today i know, that Truth is God. the pursuit of truth is invaluable for me. i trust it will be the same for you.

if we could erase the ‘it’s’ and the ‘mine’s’ from religion, politics, economics, etc., we shall soon be free and bring heaven upon earth.

the doctrine that has guided my life is not one of inaction but of the highest action.

nonviolence (ahimsa) is a power which can be wielded equally by all — children, young men and women or grown up people, provided they have a living faith in the God of Love and have therefore equal love for all mankind. when (ahimsa) is accepted as the law of life, it must pervade the whole being and not be applied to isolated acts.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Truth is the first thing to be sought for, and Beauty and Goodness will then be added unto you.

there are two aspects of things – the outward and the inward – the outward has no meaning except in so far as it helps the inward. all true Art is thus an expression of the soul. the outward forms have value only in so far as they are the expression of the inner spirit of man.

for me, the road to salvation lies through incessant toil in the service of my country and therethrough of humanity. i want to identify myself with everything that lives.

differences of opinion should never mean hostility. if they did, my wife and i should be sworn enemies of one another. i do not know two persons in the world who had no difference of opinion, and as i am a follower of the Gita, i have always attempted to regard those who differ from me with the same affection as i have for my nearest and dearest.

you have to believe no one but yourselves. you must try to listen to the inner voice, but if you will not have the expression ‘inner voice,’ you may use the expression ‘dictates of reason,’ which you should obey, and if you will not parade God, i have no doubt you will parade something else which in the end will prove to be God, for, fortunately, there is no one and nothing else but God in this universe.
